History was made at TIS yesterday, 16 May, when Grade 9 extended maths class students completed their end of semester exam online. It was glimpse of the future where students accessed their calculator, graphing and measurement tools online. It was a two-hour exam and the focus was incredible.
As mentioned last week, G9 students and staff have been accessing AssessPrep to become familiar with online e-assessments in preparation for Grade 10 final assessments. Most students appreciate the different format and it has forced teachers to view assessment from a different perspective. G9 will have exams from 20-24 May as a trial run for this time next year.
Misty, our MYP Coordinator, informed parents in the TIS Bulletin on 17 April about device requirements for students to complete these online exams. She has also emphasised the following points to students:
- This is not an independent examination, but part of your continuous assessment.
- This is part of your familiarization towards the final e-assessment next year.
- You will have some form of assessment in all your subjects ranging from 1 to all 4 criteria.
- Come to each assessment refreshed, you will have to use critical and creative thinking and the transfer of skills between subjects, so last minute cramming will not help you.
The IB Learner Profile Attributes
Being open-minded gives you the opportunity to see and understand things from different perspectives. It helps to fit in varied environments and makes you a better or upgraded version of yourself.” Amanda Tay (Spanish)
My favourite IB learner profile attribute is reflective. Being reflective means you are a person characterized by deep thought. That is, you think through stuff before making a decision or bettering yourself as a person. As an IB learner, you have to be reflective in everything you do in order to make inferences and also improve one’s self.
Princess Raïssa Kanekatoua Grade 9
My favourite IB learner profile attribute is risk-taker because it encourages me to try new things and overcome new obstacles. Andrew Opuni – Grade 8
It pleases me to serve people and to help them when in need. I like to help even if I’m not called to help. Even if I cannot do much I try to at least let them see the way out of their problem by either encouraging them or aiding them to report their problem to the authorities. I like to care because I believe that being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage. Deborah Gomado – Grade 9
This is my favourite IB Learner profile attribute because I am very eager to know more. As Mark Twain said, “He who ask is a fool for 5minutes but he who does not ask is a fool forever.”
Ashley Gaba – Grade 10
This is one of the IB Learner profile attribute and also my favorite of all. A quote which says “in order to succeed your desire for success should be greater than your fear for failure”. Elizabeth Anatsui – Grade 10
This is my favourite IB Learner profile attribute because it always reminds me to be compassionate and it also shows me that you can’t succeed if you’re rude. You have to care for others in order to be cared for. Danielle Manteaw – Grade 11
This is my favourite IB Learner profile attribute because it encourages people to step out of their comfort zones and try things that they have never tried or never even thought of trying before.
Gwen Agbesi – Grade 10
This is my favourite IB Learner profile attribute because it pushes me to look deeper into things. They think more about the “what if” factors rather than what the thing is actually about. I also like the fact that, there are no restrictions to this attribute as in, you can use your imagination to explain an aspect of something you don’t understand in a way that it makes some kind of sense to you.
Hamdia Ibrahim Grade 10
Throughout my life in TIS, since I came in Grade 7, the IB learner profile attribute that I have always adored is being principled. This is because, when you are principled, it helps you to show your recognition of what is right and what is wrong, through honesty. This is because, when someone is doing something and it is wrong, I am able to tell them in a polite way, and also same for when they are doing something right. It helps me to be strong as well, this is because the individual will know that what he/she is doing is right, and you will trust what you are doing. It also helps me to be prepared for everything that comes my way, because, I will be strong enough to face it, because, I am principled. Shirley Ahashie – Grade 8
This helped me to manage my time wisely and motivated me to study more as well as play sports at the right time. McAnthony Zuks – Grade 9
My favourite IB learner profile attribute is communication. It is my favorite attribute because it helps me collaborate and mingle with other students to gain more information from them. Communication helped me know more about my mates, how they behave and how they were able to understand the assignments. Communication helped me understand the term, ways and steps of life, how one can excel and be successful as an individual. Nhyira Caesar – Grade7
This teaches us to take risks and jump to take even the slightest chance and to be adventurous. Kosiso Beluonwu – Grade 11
Being an Inquirer, enables us to ask questions on things we want to know and expand our knowledge and vocabulary. Caleb Hammond – Grade 9
This is because, it requires students to think creatively and critically to be better IB Learners.
Tiffany Forson – Grade 7
This is actually my favourite IB Learner profile attribute. It teaches you to strive to do new things even though there could be ups and downs, you will learn from your mistakes and improve upon it. That’s life. Leslie Tamakloe – Grade 10
This IB Learner profile attribute defines me as a person, an ambassador of TIS and a long-life learner. At times I will be accused of being unserious when after school I rush to the sport complex but what they don’t know is being balanced is important quality in life. Joseph Agyemang – Grade 10
My favourite IB learner attribute is Communicator because this is the most used IB learner profile attribute, In an IB School students share ideas, answer questions and ask questions which is communication. Immanuel Frimpong – Grade 8
My favourite IB leaner profile attribute is open-minded because it really pushes me to accept everyone and this makes me more empathetic and since I love helping people. It suits me best! Claris Perdison – Grade 8
My favourite IB learner profile attribute is balanced. This because when I portray this attribute of multitasking and performing simultaneously, I feel very accomplished and as though I am truly grasping the concept of the MYP Program. Also, this allows me to properly manage my time and effectively complete academic tasks and co-curricular activities. Overall, I feel as though when I move on to university, I will be able to fit in quickly and perform just like all my colleagues, solely because I was able to acquire the skill of being balanced. Lexi Forson – Grade 8
This is my favourite IB Learner profile attribute because it is the key to improving on my future work. When I reflect on my past assignments, I find that I learn from my mistakes and do better with the next assignments. Even in life, when I look back on all my experiences, I learn to take nothing for granted and much more. Lena Dodoo – Grade 9
Communicator is my favourite IB Learner profile attribute because I have learnt a lot from this attribute. It has made me realize that everyone takes things differently so you need to communicate well, so that your message is heard properly. Chelsea Somuah – Grade 9
